"Rhino Nights" are almost here!

|
I am eagerly awaiting "Rhino Nights" on Animal Planet, Sunday, March 2nd at 7 PM e/p!

From the discovery.com website: "Rhino Nights, which kicks off season six of this legendary series, follows African wildlife expert Saba Douglas-Hamilton into the mysterious world of the black rhino. Saba begins a remarkable quest to dispel the myth that rhinos are solitary, covert and aggressive animals by bravely entering a hidden rhino world with only the words of her late mentor, Blythe Loutit, to guide her."

Trying to cheer up ...

|
My last post made me feel very sad and tearful. The picture is so gruesome - but I also believe people need to know what's going on. And, you can better understand why I feel so strongly - why I started a business to help save rhinos. Conservation is expensive - rhinos need all the help we can give them!

The tufts of hair on the ears are irresistible!

Look at the mischievious twinkle in his eye!

I feel better already :)  ... I hope you do, too!

Outraged and trying to be ... polite

|
Unfortunately, many people believe that poaching is a "thing of the past." I assure you, it is not. I'm outraged and I'm trying to be "polite." There is a particular country that is currently basking in the global spotlight, receiving "good press", and ... hiding the truth about the shameful effect that certain "cultural practices" are having on the world's rhino population.

Yes, it is truly a challenge to be "politically correct" in a world where evidence continues to point to one country that is responsible for keeping up the demand for rhino horn  ... despite the FACT there is no evidence that the rhino's horn has any medicinal value.

When a "culture" advocates the slaughter of a creature until that creature is practically extinct from the planet, the time for "cultural sensitivity" is O-V-E-R.

It appears that (yes, it's China) does more than turn a blind eye to poaching - how else could it continue on the scale that it does?

Has anyone else considered the idea that the commerce generated by poaching rhinos is an actual component of China's economy and that's why serious attempts to crack down on the demand are simply not made?

Aren't there any conservation groups in China that are appalled and horrified - willing to expose this black market (and its "practitioners") to the world so that the rest of us have a chance to put an end to it once and for all?

By the way, the female Indian Rhino pictured above died. Her calf was murdered, the horn hacked off, and as she stood over her dead calf, she was shot twice and her horn was removed while she was still alive. She survived for 35 hours. This murder occurred in Kaziranga National Park, where sadly, poaching is on the rise.

My favorite TV show ...

|
Saving Rhinos has joined "The Big Idea's American Dream Team"!

What does this mean? Basically, this means I sent my DVD to CNBC's "The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch" to be included in the "American Dream Team" segment, featured in the last 30 seconds of the show.

What's in the DVD? Well, it's me (of course) proclaiming to the world how "The Big Idea" has inspired me to pursue my dream. Which it definitely has! This is my favorite TV show!

Am I some sort of entrepreneurial NERD?

I taped several versions of my script, wearing a different RHINO T-SHIRT each time, and then pieced it together so I'm in a different t-shirt throughout the 30-second video.

I know what you're thinking: "Hey Rhishja, why don't you just post your video on YouTube so we can all look at it, instead of trying to imagine it from your feeble description?"

Whew! I hope the Saving Rhinos video is selected for the show.
