About the artist, Rafael Soares

Brazilian born and living in the United States since 1989, Rafael McKenzie Soares has been painting since the age of fifteen. He began taking lessons with a professional Dutch artist who introduced him to the academic drawing techniques of the old Masters, therefore creating a solid artistic foundation.

As a naturalist artist, he investigates the endless possibilities that the world of fauna and flora can offer as subject matter not only as faithful scientific documentation, but also as an artistic reflection of the natural world with its interconnected patterns and aesthetics.

The preservation of the natural world and the true craftsmanship in art are the driving force that reinforces Soares' commitment and determination to his art. His work is included in many private collections and every year his audience expands.

Soares is a member of the American Society of Botanical artists, and award-winning artist. He received first prize at the 5th Annual Juried International Botanical Art Exhibition at the Horticultural Society of New York.

Among the national and international shows to his credit, Soares participated in the prestigious 10th International Exhibition of Botanical Art & Illustration at The Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation in Pittsburgh.
